Description
Tune in on March 12th from 7:00-8:30pm for this conversation with historian and author Cassandra Good as she discusses her latest book, a vivid account of the lives of Washington’s stepgrandchildren, the Custises, and their complicated roles in American history. First Family explores the interplay of history, class, slavery, and legacy in both the concept of “family” and in the shaping of American identity. Cassandra Good is Associate Professor of History at Marymount University. She previously served as an editor at the Papers of James Monroe. She is the author of many popular and scholarly articles as well as two books: Founding Friendships: Friendships Between Men & Women in the Early American Republic and First Family: George Washington's Heirs and the Making of America. An email with the registration link will come from Lara Musser, Highland's Education Programs Manager.
